Favorite song to run to?
Escape Velocity — The Chemical Brothers
Run solo or with others?
Both! There is magic in a solo run, but a lot of my social time is spent running with others.
How long have you been running & why do you love it?
I was a Kinesiology major, so I ran a lot naturally for classes, but I have been seriously and regularly running for the last 5+ years. Running is my purest form of myself. I love the challenge, the sound of my breath, and the different places it takes me. Not just physically, but also mentally.
What was your biggest achievement as a runner? What obstacles did you overcome to get there?
My biggest achievement so far as a runner has been completing a half marathon, 8 months after fracturing my foot in a stair accident. That accident sidelined me to no running for 3 months, and without a base to begin training with. I was able to tough it out and train well enough once cleared for running, to be able to not only complete the race, but to PR by 4 minutes. I was faced with mental barriers, physical challenges of getting back into running and doing it strong with very little time. I know I have many more achievements to come!
If you could relive any race you’ve done in the past, which would it be?
My first half marathon. That feeling was amazing and I had such a good race!
Are you training for any upcoming races? If so, which one(s)?
Yes! My first full marathon in October.
What’s the biggest race on your bucket list?
Currently it is my first marathon. I have a big scary thought not quite a goal yet, to complete a 100 miler by the end of my 35th year.
Favorite way to fuel up: Before, During, & After?
Peanut butter bread before, Nuun and Honey Stingers during, and protein shake with almond milk and Nuun post.
What’s your go-to spot for awesome running gear?
What's your favorite brand of running shoes?
What are a few of your favorite running blogs?
I'm ashamed to say I don't follow any running blogs specifically. I do follow Flotrack and Runner's World pretty religiously however.
What are your running essentials?
A hat, comfy socks, Saucony shoes, music, Oiselle bottoms and a top, and of course my Wearesafe Tag!
How has Wearsafe changed your fitness routine?
Wearsafe has given me more confidence to know that people are just a press of a button away. It makes me feel better about running alone, especially if it is an off hour. I will always stay diligent and never put myself in a potentially dangerous situation, however if one suddenly happens upon me, I know have the confidence to be able to reach those I need to.
What’s your favorite thing about Wearsafe?
It's small, it fits on a top, a hat, a waist band, almost anywhere!
What's your favorite way to wear your Tag?
On the neck of my shirt or tank.
".... All of these show one of my favorite things about my @wearsafelabs Tag! It's small, can be worn anywhere without budging, and it helps keep me safe!"
What are your running goals for 2017?
To complete my first full marathon and do it healthy!
Where do you look for fitspiration?
The women of track and field and distance running. I also look within myself and know that I want to be the best version of myself.
What was the best training advice you ever received?
Trust in the training, it has served its purpose.
What advice would you give to new runners, or people just getting back into running?
Take your time, trust the process and have the most fun.
