The numbers are staggering.
217 people per hour.
5,208 per day.
36,456 per week.
1.9 million people every year.
It sounds like the population of a large city, and you wouldn’t be far off. (Philadelphia is only 1.5 million.) Unfortunately, 1.9 million is the number of people who are sexually assaulted in the United States each year.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and a reminder to us all that sexual violence is a serious and widespread problem. However, there are a multitude of ways that we can all fight to end sexual assault.
“Each of us can promote positive behaviors, thoughtful policies, and healthy relationships to create safe environments. Communities can successfully reduce the risk of sexual violence through efforts that promote respect, equality, and accountability.”
At Wearsafe, we focus on technology that can help in emergency scenarios such as sexual assault. While we know that technology alone won’t eliminate the problem, our hope is that the Wearsafe Tag will be used worldwide as a means of prevention.
Each of us has the power to make a difference. We are all in this together, in the fight to end sexual assault. Prevention is possible.
